Discount store chain Penny will be introducing „true prices“ for nine products starting Monday for a week.
The „true prices“ include hidden costs such as environmental pollution during production.
Prices for products such as Vienna sausages, mozzarella, and fruit yoghurt will increase by up to 94 percent.
The campaign aims to raise awareness among customers.
The additional income will be donated to a climate protection project and the preservation of farms.
The „true prices“ were calculated by scientists from the Technical University of Nuremberg and the University of Greifswald.
Animal-based products have a higher price increase than plant-based products.
A marketing expert predicts that Penny will not sell much of the products, but the company wants to raise awareness for sustainability and enhance its own brand.
